“Dreaming” or Why I Love Meg Ryan Movies

ygm

If you know me, you know that I absolutely adore Meg Ryan romantic comedies (specifically the 90s ones). In fact, one of my favorite movies of all time is “You’ve Got Mail” (1999) starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Now, I tell you it is my favorite movie in sheer confidence, so don’t go making fun of me before you’ve finished reading this blog. I am a girl, and I have feelings.

It is my favorite movie, because:

1.) It is delightfully witty
2.) Wonderfully charming
3.) Two complete opposites are undeniably perfect for one another.
4.) And it gives me warm and fuzzy feelings, haha.

These 4 points bring me to kind of an overall point. Life in Meg Ryan’s movies are completely impossible. Internet relationships have been a total bust. I don’t think I could put up with a guy like Billy Crystal and still be cool with it 25 years later. I seriously doubt that anyone would fly across the country to meet me on the Empire State Building. And lastly, there is no Tom Hanks to sweep me off my feet. What’s the point?

Okay, I’ll tell you.

5.) Life is Meg Ryan movies are impossible, but they are wonderful, too. Maybe I’ll never be a 30-something business woman who happens upon a delightful Darcy/Edward Cullen/Clark Kent/whatever hunk of the current decade, but dreaming about it comforts you.

In the middle of “You’ve Got Mail,” when Kathleen (Meg Ryan) and Frank are in the coffee shop and they basically split up, Frank asks her, “What about you? Is there someone else?” to which Meg Ryan’s character replies, “No. No, but there is the dream of someone else.”

Really, who doesn’t want that? Going through New York’s cafes, parks, bookstores, and city streets laughing, debating, sometimes arguing, and slowly falling in love with the guy you know you’re going to end up with at the end of the movie?

Things I am doing with my summer lol

Finished the first week of second session summer school, and phew! It’s off to a pretty good start. I haven’t completely failed anything quite yet nor have I fallen asleep in class!

After class, I have been swimming a whole lot. Hanging out with some old friends and the usual: bumming around the house. After class today, I stopped by McKays to browse. It’s funny, I usually make rounds through McKays, almost like a little routine. First I stop by Young Adults (not gonna lie, I once found a Scott Westerfeld novel there for like $3), then I go through contemporary fiction (usually nothing but romance but sometimes I get lucky finding Meg Cabot or new Jennifer Crusie), regular fiction (I am still on the hunt for a copy of Alice Sebold’s Lucky and Almost Noon but not today), graphic novels (lulz), foreign languages, and lastly I go through movies. I ended up with quite a haul. =D

1. フルーツバスケット / Fruits Basket collector’s Artbook
!!!!! Imagine my surprise when I find this limited edition authentic Japanese artbook in McKays for only $1.50! I snatched it up right away and kind of hid it so no one else would snag it. It is brand new and absolutely GORGEOUS.

movies

2. A pile of chick flicks

Basically, my classic Meg Ryan collection is nearly complete! I snagged the only copies of “When Harry Met Sally” and “You’ve Got Mail” on DVD. Yesssss. I am such a huge fan of Meg Ryan’s works, but I am a bit hesitant to watch some of her recent movies. I was so thoroughly disappointed with “In The Land of Women,” that I cringed a few times….it was like watching Meg’s career slowly dying. :<

Anyway, my weekend is basically complete. I have already knocked out like 6 movies this week including 3 of the ones I just bought, ahahha.

planner

3. A new student planner

With there only being a month left of the summer, the pages in my 2008-2009 planner are growing thinner. It’s time to replace it, so I went to Target and got a 2009-2010 student planner. I guess you could say it is the one responsible thing I bought for myself so far, haha. If you know me (which is why I hope you are reading this), then you know I love to be super organized, so I got a really sturdy one this year.

“I think I am definitely taking it easy this summer.” Translation?

“I am a big lazy bum, and my life is boring.”

Productive, I know.

Let’s pretend we’re models.

I’ve been hanging out with my childhood friend Afton (who I have literally not seen in years!) recently. We both had an afternoon off and decided to have some fun dressing up and taking some pseudo modeling pictures. Save your harsh criticism for another blog, please, because this was all in good fun. I’m no model. However, I have been a pseudo professional photographer for nearly a year now, so if you want to critique the way the photos look, that’s fine. =P

Recap

I have done a horrible job at maintaining this blog, so let’s recap:

1. I am in summer school
I’m taking summer classes to catch up on my general education requirements. Took Econ 201 first session and am about to take Biology 102 for the second session. Then, it’s two weeks break and back for fall semester, wheeee.

2. I hate summer school
No, not whee. It really does stink. I just finished Econ 201, and it was so tough. My whole summer consists of 3 hour classes MTWRF, ridiculously hard, and I’m about $2000 in the hole. :(

3. I am now back to working 2 jobs
Sound familiar? Yeah, for every extended break, I go back to working my butt off at ____ and ____.

4. But it’s totally worth it
Since, as I said before, I am out, like, 2 grand, I kind of need the moneyz. And I gotta get back in the groove of studying. In addition to Bio, I have to study Japanese for the fall AND start prepping for the LSAT. lol

5. I gotz a new beau.
Huzzah! I never really thought it would happen, but it did. B is a great guy and I will probably mention his awesomeness in future blog posts. But to sum it up, I am totally in a great place in my life and I am glad to have someone who is steady and supportive. :)

6. Went to California (Bay Area) a month ago
And visited my beautiful niece Kali. My parents were there for two weeks as well (after me) and loooved her. Cutest baby in the world, and I am totes going to spoiler her. :)

7. As a result, spent 2 weeks alone in the house
I’m lame and I didn’t throw any wild parties, sorry. It was a lot of movie marathons and hanging out.

8. As a result of that, I have been watching WAAAAY too much TV.

Watched all three Lord of The Rings movies in sequence (over 9 hours), first season of True Blood (12 eps), first season of The Tudors (10 eps), first season of Veronica Mars (24 eps, again ahahah), and a gazillion little movies (at least one a night).

9. As a result, I have gained 7 pounds.

No joke. Since my parents were gone, all I did was eat out and eat even MORE junk at home (i was bored!!!). Basically all the exercise I got was getting in and out of bed lol.

10. As a result, B and I have made a pact
We are going to start eating healthier (I will try) and exercise more (I will try).

11. And by that, I mean, B has made a pact, and I will just keep my awful unhealthy ways.
lololololol

End for now!

Cutest baby in the world [Kali update]

Saw my baby niece a few weeks ago and forgot to upload pictures here on the blog! My beautiful baby niece Kali is 9 months here. Some of these pictures are from a visit with me and the later ones are from a visit by my parents (Kali’s grandparents). Isn’t she adorable? :3

kaliandme

Well, I’m back in the Bay. Just like every year. This year, though, is different because the trip is so short. I am only here for four days and then back to Knoxville! Just like that. Poof! Back to work, school, regular sleeping patterns, and people.

The best part about this trip is meeting Kali, my beautiful 9 month old niece….the spitting image of her aunt Linda. =P

Pics soon.

3.05 for the semester….3.1 cumulative. A little disappointing. I blame the minuses, but HEY GUESS WHAT? I kept my scholarship SO ALL IS GOOD DONT CARE NO MORE.

..I just spent the last 4 hours reorganizing my closet/drawers trying to fit all my stupid clothes in an organized fashion. It was ridiculous. I have waaaay too many clothes. :<

P.S. “Project Being There” RUMMAGE SALE ON SATURDAY. Be there, or else! All proceeds/donations will go to raise money for “Project Being There,” a non-profit organization which provides toys, clothing, medicine, and basic necessities for orphanages in Vietnam.
